Project Description

The project “SPORT for RULES – Sharing positive values through the enhancement of the referee’s role” aims at promoting the role of referees as subjects responsible for the regulation of sports competitions, in charge of ensuring compliance with the rules and players’ safety. Despite their essential role, referees are often victims of violence and disrespect by players, coaches and audience, example of how the violence represents a real problem in sport.

Tackling violence is indeed one of the most urgent challenges in sport, as stated by the Erasmus+ Programme. The basic idea of the project is to develop actions that will positively affect different aspects of violence and intolerance in sport, emphasizing the positive values that referees bring.

Project objectives, strictly linked to the implementation of the Intellectual Outputs, are:
– The promotion of the role of the referees within the school through the creation of a tailored training, able to allow children to experience and understand the double role of player/referee, and to provide teachers with the tools to support the implementation of this new approach;
– The development of a recruitment and maintenance strategy, specifically targeting young referees, in order to stimulate the use of tools suitable to support their participation and involvement, countering drop-out phenomenon with a special focus on the female participation;
– The spreading of the founding values of sport through the implementation of an information and dissemination campaign with the goal of influencing the general behavior.
